New RTÉ KIDS short film explores friendship, courage and community

Commissioned for RTÉ KIDS as part of the EBU Kids’ Drama Exchange The Note will premiere Sunday August 30, 5:10pm

The Note tells a moving story of friendship, peer pressure and the power of one courageous act of kindness. Featuring some of the best young talent Ireland has to offer, the short film airs Sunday August 30 on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.

Set in a noisy Dublin estate, the film follows inseparable friends Bree and Bella, whose mischievous prank accidentally targets Tala, a new girl who refuses to speak. While Bella embraces the social status the prank brings, Bree is consumed by guilt and determined to make amends. As Bree defies peer pressure to reach out, her small gestures spark an unexpected wave of community connection.

Directed by Viko Nikci, The Note focuses on emotionally resonant stories for young audiences and stars Lucy Smith, Francesca Europa and Neoenhle Nkoloti in the lead roles.

Lucy, Francesca and Neo brought an energy and authenticity to the characters that inspired the entire cast and crew to fire on all cylinders. We all knew that it would be a charmed shoot when the rain stopped just long enough to get our shots! I’m proud of the wonderful work that everyone put into this story and hope that audiences enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed making it.”

The Note was commissioned for RTÉ KIDS as part of the EBU Kids’ Drama Exchange, an international initiative producing high-quality original drama for children.

The Note will screen at Irish and international film festivals during 2026 and will premiere on RTÉ on 30 August at 5:10pm.
