RTÉ requires that any company awarded a Commission is aware of the obligations under the RTÉ Journalism & Content Guidelines 2020 (21449_RTE_Journalism_Guidelines_2020-Updated.pdf) and the statutory and regulatory obligations under the Broadcasting Act 2009 and the relevant Codes of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (www.bai.ie ).

RTÉ collaborates closely with independent producers to deliver many of Ireland’s most popular television programmes.

As programme‑makers, we operate together in one of the most competitive broadcasting landscapes in the world. We compete for audiences not only with some of the largest global commercial broadcasters, but also with the most well‑funded public service broadcasters. In recent years, the growth of on-demand services has further influenced audience viewing habits.

Our audiences expect to be informed, engaged, and entertained. They seek high‑quality, original Irish content, and our schedules are built around this expectation. To continue to compete successfully, we rely on your creativity and production expertise to develop the programming our viewers want.

We are now accepting proposals on a rolling commissioning basis. Please submit only fully developed concepts that clearly align with our commissioning briefs. These briefs will be updated regularly, and we will highlight areas where additional ideas are needed or where new opportunities arise.

Under this system, most proposals will receive a prompt decision. We believe that a quick “no” is preferable to a prolonged “maybe.”
