Welcome to RTÉ’s commissioning website

RTÉ requires that any company awarded a Commission is aware of the obligations under the RTÉ Journalism & Content Guidelines 2020 (21449_RTE_Journalism_Guidelines_2020-Updated.pdf) and the statutory and regulatory obligations under the Broadcasting Act 2009 and the relevant Codes of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (www.bai.ie ).

RTÉ works in close collaboration with independent producers to deliver many of Ireland’s most successful and valued television programmes.

Together, we operate within one of the most competitive broadcasting markets globally. We compete for audiences not only with leading international commercial broadcasters but also with highly resourced public service broadcasters. In recent years, the continued growth of on‑demand platforms has significantly reshaped audience viewing behaviour.

Our audiences expect to be informed, engaged, and entertained through high‑quality, original Irish content. RTÉ’s schedules are built around meeting these expectations. To remain competitive and relevant in this evolving landscape, we rely on the creativity, innovation, and production expertise of the independent production sector to develop programming that resonates with viewers.

Producers with strong digital‑only or RTÉ Player‑focused ideas are encouraged to contact the relevant Group Head or Commissioning Editor directly.

For assistance with the submission process, please contact Michelle Kenny or Jemma Nic Lochlann in the Independent Productions Unit on (01) 208 2743 or (01) 208 3429.

We wish you every success with your proposals.
