RTÉ has announced that the most exciting and critically-acclaimed Irish act of recent years, Fontaines DC, will broadcast an exclusive session on 2FM this Sunday 2 August. The show, airing at 7pm, will also feature an interview with 2FM’s Dan Hegarty.
The session of ground-breaking rock and roll was recorded in recent weeks when the Fontaines DC gave their very first live performance of their new album ‘A Hero’s Death’ in its entirety, at the RTÉ Radio Centre’s iconic Studio 1.
The release of the band’s second album on 31 July comes 473 days after their debut ‘Dogrel’, which was both universally acclaimed, and shortlisted for the Mercury Music Prize, and RTÉ Choice Music Prize.
In the specially-recorded new show for 2FM, bandmembers Conor Curley and Conor Deegan spoke to presenter Dan Hegarty about the new album, and the past two years of the band’s meteoric career.
Dan says: ‘Fontaines DC are a combination of many of the great things you’d associate with past masters, mixed with their own distinct identity, which has helped define music in the year 2020. We’ve seen this band clock up more touring miles in the last two years than many acts would see in their entire career. We’re so pleased we could welcome them to Studio 1 for this special session.’
In addition, on Sunday night The Alternative with Graham Smyth on 2FM will feature a special exclusive playlist curated by Fontaines DC from 10pm. The list features tunes by The Beach Boys, Radiohead and The Jesus and Mary Chain among others.
The Fontaines DC broadcast is part of a weekend of special music broadcasts over the upcoming bank holiday weekend on 2FM, in the station’s ongoing Epic Summer of Music series. Tune in for rap and hip hop from 7pm on Friday, dance on Saturday from 6pm, and indie and rock on Sunday, including Tracy Clifford’s Indie Disco from 5pm.
