RTÉ launches new misinformation podcast, The Truth Matters: A Guide to Misinformation

RTÉ News has today launched a brand-new podcast series The Truth Matters: A Guide to Misinformation. The four-part podcast series presented and produced by Irish journalists Della Kilroy and Shane Creevy, explores how misinformation spreads in an era of mass communication and will share advice on how to protect yourself against it.
In a year which has seen a rapid increase in the spread of false information, this new series examines the differences between misinformation and disinformation and investigates how and why conspiracy theories spread so rapidly online.
The podcast aims to arm the listener with the skills to identify misinformation and play their part in combating the spread online. By speaking to journalists, authors, civil rights activists and digital experts Della and Shane will learn how to talk to friends who believe conspiracy theories and how by using empathy listeners will be able to approach those who they know to be going down the conspiracy rabbit hole.
Together, Della Kilroy and Shane Creevy have over 20 years of experience in journalism, Della is a multimedia journalist working with RTÉ Radio 1 and Shane is Head of Editorial at Kinzen. The Truth Matters: A Guide to Misinformation will publish every Monday from today, 17thMay, for four weeks.
The podcast coincides with the new phase of RTÉ’s Truth Matters campaign aimed at highlighting the issue of misinformation and the importance of accurately sourced news. Featuring trusted RTÉ News correspondents Ailbhe Conneely, Mícheál Lehane and Sinéad Hussey the campaign focuses on how core journalistic values such as trust, integrity, and truth impact their reporting of major news stories.
