A fun and irreverent new animation series, starting today (Monday, 6 September) on RTÉjr and RTÉ Player, will aim to give pre-schoolers the tools they need to understand and tackle problems with life online. Produced for RTÉjr and Sky, by Dublin-based award winning animation studio Kavaleer, Alva’s World explores online safety through the eyes of Alva her family and pet robot Mo.
Alva’s World sees our pint-sized heroine pitted against the plots of three duplicitous dunderheads – the Trolls of Gizmo. The show aims to provide a much-needed set of water-wings for a generation of children who will find themselves in at the deep end of life online in a few short years. Gizmo is the world that echoes the internet environment and social-media landscape, with all its wonders and risks. Kids will be drawn in through fun stories and compelling characters, but subtly taught about – and given tools for solving – problems they will undoubtedly face.
Andrew Kavanagh, Creator / Executive Producer said: ‘Kavaleer are thrilled for the launch of Alva’s World on RTÉjr. RTÉ have been a staunch supporter of the show from day one, and were the first to recognise the critical importance of a format to introduce the online world to pre-schoolers. We’re proud Alva and her friends will be seen first by an Irish audience, and grateful to our partners in being part of the team that created a genuine, and much-needed ‘first’ in children’s programming.’
Suzanne Kelly, Head of Children’s & Young People’s Content, RTÉ, said: ‘I am so excited to welcome Alva’s World to RTÉjr. Kavaleer have produced a truly thought provoking, engaging and genuinely funny series, sited in the online world, for Irish pre-schoolers (and their parents) to enjoy. The series will be available across all our digital services, RTÉjr and Player, so the subject matter of the series couldn’t be more apt. It is never too early for kids to learn about navigating the online world safely and Alva’s World is the perfect series to do this with. So join Alva and all her friends from Gizmo, from today on RTÉjr and RTÉ Player.’
The full box set of Alva’s World (26 episodes) will be available to watch on the RTÉ Player from today.
RTÉ Player is also home to many other Irish and international titles for kids. Popular shows include: Bing, Peppa Pig, Punky, Hey Duggee, Dorg Van Dango, Nelly & Nora, and more.
Another unmissable new show for kids this autumn is Nova Jones, which starts on 22 Sept on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player. A co-production with CBBC, made by Jam Media, Nova Jones is a new 10 part series, for 8 to 12 year olds, about an intergalactic pop superstar on a tour through space, with a big Irish cast. The series follows our 18 year old intergalactic pop superstar Nova as she travels through space in The Jefferson tour bus. On her tour, she drops out out-of-this-world singles, killer albums, and plays sell-out gigs to her fans across the universe.
