The RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards will return to Vicar Street, Dublin at 8.00pm on Thursday 17th November and will be live on RTÉ Radio 1.
RTÉ presenter, John Creedon will host the awards ceremony in front of a live audience as RTÉ celebrates the very best in Irish folk music over the past year and pays tribute to Irish folk legends. A television highlights programme will also be broadcast on RTÉ One on Saturday 21st November.
Tickets for the RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards are on sale now via www.ticketmaster.ie. Tickets are €28, including booking fee and other charges.
This year’s RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards nominees will be announced on Thursday 3rd November. The award categories include:
- Best Emerging Artist (Winner 2021: John Francis Flynn)
- Best Folk Instrumentalist (Winner 2021: Caoimhin O’Fearghaill)
- Best Original Folk Track (Winner 2021: Chain Reaction – Mick Flannery and Susan O’Neill)
- Best Traditional Folk Track (Winner 2021: I’m a Rover – Ye Vagabonds (Pictured))
- Best Folk Group (Winner 2021: Ye Vagabonds)
- Best Folk Singer (Winner 2021: John Francis Flynn)
- Best Folk Album (Winner 2021: Solas an Lae – Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin and Ultan O’Brien)
- Lifetime Achievement Award
Previous winners of the Lifetime Achievement Award are Christy Moore (2021), Steve Cooney (2020), Moya Brennan (2019) and Andy Irvine (2018). An artist will also be inducted into the RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards Hall of Fame. Previous inductees include Sarah Makem (2021), Frank Harte (2020), Margaret Barry (2019) and Tom Munnelly and John Reilly (2018).
Host and RTÉ presenter, John Creedon said: “I am delighted to be back in Vicar Street again this year in front of a live audience of folk music fans to celebrate the very best in folk music in Ireland over the past year and there is so much to celebrate and to be proud of. It’s been wonderful to see the return of live music and events over the past year and I am looking forward to enjoying more great live performances on the night from so many talented artists and musicians and to sharing these with RTÉ Radio 1 listeners across the world.”

The awards will feature live performances from some of this year’s nominees in what promises to be a very special night, celebrating Irish folk music and artists, both established as well as emerging.
