RTÉ Player this week debuts a brand-new original sitcom, Good Boy, a fresh and hilarious take on navigating comedy, career, and self-discovery.
Starring comedian and social media sensation Tony Cantwell, Good Boy follows the personal and professional adventures of a thirty-something aspiring comedian juggling a day job he loathes, a tumultuous love life, and a mounting drive to make a name for himself in comedy. At the core of this story is Good Boy’s journey toward an ADHD diagnosis—a quest which turns out to be emotional, heartfelt and very amusing.
Good Boy is trying to crack the comedy code by diving into social media trends in pursuit of viral fame, only to encounter frustration at every turn. His story takes an unexpected twist when he begins the lengthy and surreal process of securing an ADHD diagnosis, a journey that challenges him but proves heartwarming and transformative.
Written by Tony Cantwell and Hannah Mamalis, and directed by Fergal Costello, Good Boy is inspired by Cantwell’s real-life experiences. Since learning of his ADHD diagnosis last year, Tony Cantwell has embraced a new outlook on life, which served as the creative springboard for the series. Good Boy is a funny, authentic reflection on choice paralysis, the pressure of modern self-promotion, and the balance between ambition and acceptance.
