- Viewers will be entertained across the schedule, kicking off next weekend with The Traitors Ireland.

The Traitors Ireland will officially premiere on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player on Sunday, 31 August. Siobhán McSweeney as host will charge into chaos, suspicion and stylish skulduggery. Each day, the group of 24 hopefuls embark on Missions as they work together to add more money to the potential prize pot of €50,000. Shot on the banks of the Boyne in Slane Castle, this spine-tingling new adaptation of the global phenomenon brings suspicion, strategy and sabotage to Irish soil. January also sees Tommy Tiernan back in the hotseat with a brand-new line-up of top-secret guests for The Tommy Tiernan Show, now in its 10th season.
In a new series of The End of the World with Beanz, Martin Beanz Ward takes a selection of well-known faces including Samantha Mumba and Enya Martin out of their comfort zones and into the unknown. Dermot Bannon’s Celebrity Super Spaces steps into the unique homes of familiar faces including Clodagh McKenna and Joanne McNally’s residences in the UK.
Culture Night 2025 will be celebrated live from Galway with a mix of performances and events from across the city showcasing the energy and diversity of cultural activity on offer nationwide. The Employables is a new three-part series following the experiences of six jobseekers with disabilities, supported by Brendan O’Connor and a host of mentors, advocates, and allies seeking to fulfil their full potential. With real honesty, and by challenging some uncomfortable truths, the group sets out to prove that they have something equally important to bring to the job market and that inclusion benefits the entire workforce.
In The Shift: Cork University Hospital viewers are taken behind the scenes at one of Ireland’s biggest and busiest hospitals – CUH – for a new series filmed over the course of six months. In Dolphins: Wonders of the Ocean, underwater cameraman Ken O’Sullivan brings us on his 20-year journey with dolphins, beginning with an encounter with a lone, lost dolphin in his home place in Clare and ultimately to freediving and filming enormous pods of dolphins in the open North Atlantic Ocean.
The Ryanair Story is a two-part series documenting the 40-year history of Ryanair’s ascent from offering one single route, to becoming a giant of world aviation. The lives and crimes of some of Ireland’s most renowned con-artists and white-collar criminals are documented in Swindlers, a three-part true crime series as told through the voices of the victims of these scammers.
Tony Cascarino:Extra Time documents the story of Tony Cascarino, the former hairdresser from Kent, who went from once being transferred for a set of tracksuits, to becoming an Irish footballing hero. One-off documentary Caesar’s Palace will explore the experience of the new Irish of African origin through the medium of hair – with access to salons, those working in them, and the customers who frequent them, viewers will get to know some fascinating characters.
Testimony follows survivors of Ireland’s Magdalene Laundries and Mother and Baby Homes in their fight for justice. In The Case I Can’t Forget, detectives share every twist and turn of standout investigations that shaped their careers. Series 5 airs in early 2026, with four brand-new and gripping cases, including the inquiry into the capital murder of Garda Adrian Donohoe, in which Irish detectives worked with the NYPD in an undercover operation to apprehend cop killer Aaron Brady in New York.
Daniel O’Connell: The Emancipator is an hour-long documentary exploring the life and legacy of Daniel O’Connell to mark the 250th anniversary of his birth in 2025. The documentary, produced in association with University College Cork and Notre Dame University, examines how O’Connell’s achievements continue to shape and impact our world today. Ahead of the release of the records of the 1926 census, Come to Your Census is a two-part documentary series that invites viewers to step back in time to explore Ireland’s past through the first national census taken after independence. David McCullagh examines the life and legacy of Éamon de Valera in Dev’s Rise and Rule, a two-part documentary series marking the 50th anniversary of the death of “The Chief”, and asks whether we are still living in de Valera’s Ireland? Patrick Duffy’s Irish Pubs sees famed Dallas actor Duffy travelling across Ireland to see how Irish bars and pub culture has evolved over the years.
Trackers: The People vs The Banks is a two-part series that goes behind the headlines to tell the real story of Ireland’s tracker mortgage scandal through the eyes of those most affected. Rory: How The Masters was Won looks at Rory McIlroy’s long-awaited victory at the 2025 U.S. Masters. The film provides a raw, intimate portrait of the emotional evolution behind one of the most significant victories in Irish sport.
Dance Master offers an insightful portrait of Breandán de Gallaí, tracing his evolution from traditional dancer to choreographer unafraid to challenge convention. Meat Loaf: Rock Bottom in Ireland brings viewers back to Ireland in 1990, when the legendary US rock star performed in some of the country’s most unlikely venues during what was a chaotic two-week journey through Ireland’s heartland. Tommy Sands Clann an Cheoil is a new celebratory and insightful documentary which looks at one of Ireland’s most successful and influential folk singer songwriters and how he and his family have acquired an international legacy as musicians, social activists and storytellers.
Made of Stone: with Indiana Stones follows Indiana Stones, aka David Keohan, as he goes around the country finding and lifting Ireland’s ancient lifting stones, along the way uncovering a forgotten culture and lost history. Donal’s Festival Kitchen sees the chef immerse himself in the culture, traditions and beliefs of Ireland’s minority faiths as he invites top chefs and personalities from those communities to prepare and share dishes from their main festivals. All That Remains is a documentary headed up by Niall Breslin, who embarks on an emotional quest to restore the identity and dignity of the people who lived and died at St Loman’s Mental Hospital, Mullingar.

A new series of much-praised social history series Scannal launches this Autumn, looking back, with the benefit of hindsight, on stories that shocked and gripped the nation. This series looks back at the story of notorious Catholic priest and IRA operative Fr Patrick Ryan; the furore ignited by the Oireachtas Golfing Dinner in the summer of 2020; how the mysterious, unsolved, death of a young woman in 1852 continues to confound the experts, and whether one of the biggest, costliest tribunals in the history of the State was worth it in the end?
Crimecall returns in September for a new series in which presenter Carla O’Brien is joined by Gardaí appealing for the public’s help to solve major criminal investigations.
Futureville Ireland returns to mark National Science Week in November 2025. In the new series, presenters Carla O’Brien and Dr Lollie Mancey will continue their search for fascinating new Irish science and show how it could shape our lives 25 years from now, in a brand-new city of the future. Ear to the Ground continues to offer a wide and varied interpretation of its brief to cover agriculture and rural affairs – from farm succession to drug addiction; from the All-Ireland hedge-laying championships to winter milking, and from the devastation of a TB outbreak to domestic abuse – all told through a farming and rural lens.
In The Records Show, Katie Hannon explores the shelves of Ireland’s National Archives, digging out previously undisturbed documents, before heading out across the country to follow the trail of the stories behind them. At Your Service follows hoteliers and siblings Francis and John Brennan who travel to Tipperary, Cork, Waterford and Louth on a mission to help struggling hospitality businesses.

As well as Culture Night, other upcoming Arts and Culture programming includes The Museum of Me, where Dermot Whelan invites well-known faces to create a one-night only exhibition of their most treasured belongings, uncovering the memories, secrets and emotions that shape who they are.
Fighting Words is a fly-on-the-wall documentary closely following the creative-writing school Fighting Words, founded by Roddy Doyle, as they attempt to encourage a love of writing in teenagers from inner city and Deis schools. In The Irish Book of the Year, from fiction to factual, lifestyle to life stories, Irish books are honoured in the annual celebration of Irish writing. During a ceremony in Dublin, Oliver Callan explores the six books shortlisted and announces the overall winner.
MORE SPORT WITH RTÉ
RTÉ continues to support Irish heroes on a national and international stage with its range of upcoming free-to-air sporting coverage taking viewers into Spring 2026.
Join Jacqui Hurley as she leads RTÉ’s coverage of the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025, with reporting from the Irish camp by Clare MacNamara. Coverage begins on 22 August across RTÉ One, RTÉ2, RTÉ Player, and RTÉ Radio 1 and 2FM, as Ireland gears up to face Japan in their opening match on 24 August.
There’s more rugby to come with the Autumn Nations Series when Ireland’s men will host Japan, Australia and World Champions South Africa at the Aviva Stadium, with all games live on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player.
The UEFA Champions League returns for the 2025/26 Season, with live Wednesday night games featuring Play-Offs, League Phase and Knock Out stages. There will be live coverage of the Men’s FAI Cup games all the way through to the Final on 9 November, as well as of Ireland Men’s FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign which includes games v Portugal and Hungary. The UEFA Women’s Nations League continues to follow the Republic of Ireland Women’s team as they face Belgium in a two-legged Promotion Play-Off in late October.
In racing, The Irish Champions Festival brings the curtain down on the flat season in spectacular style, with 10 Group races across two days of top-class action at Leopardstown and the Curragh. Then, the focus shifts to the jumps with RTÉ’s Winter Racing Series kicking off at Navan on 16 November before moving on to Sunday racing from Punchestown, Fairyhouse, and Cork, culminating in the iconic Leopardstown Christmas Festival. In February, the very best return to Leopardstown to battle it out for Grade One honours at the Dublin Racing Festival.
On RTÉ Player, the Women’s Rugby World Cup delivers 13 Player-exclusive games, ensuring fans stay close to the action. Additional coverage of the World Athletics Championships, including overnight coverage, will be available on RTÉ Player’s exclusive channels.
September 4 sees the first day of four days live coverage of the Amgen Irish Open from The K Club as Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Seamus Power and Padraig Harrington join a host of international stars at the county Kildare venue.
The World Athletics Championships take place in Tokyo in September with live coverage on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player. A strong Irish team is expected to travel, including both the Women’s and Mixed 4x400m relay teams.
RTÉ’s year-round GAA coverage continues this autumn with action from both county and provincial finals as the Club Championships return. Plus, there’s an unprecedented, intimate and epic two-part series following the Camogie Championship from start to finish, combining multiple teams and stories, witnessing heartbreak and triumph, culminating in a winner-takes-all climax at Croker.
