Get ready for an inspiring and emotional insight into the world of competitive Irish dancing with My Story: Tomi Champion of the World airing on RTÉ2 this monday. This heart-warming documentary follows 12-year-old Tomi Elemide, a two-time World Champion, as he prepares to compete once again for the prestigious title at the Irish Dance World Championships 2025 in Dublin.
Tomi may only be 12, but he’s already a star in the Irish dancing world, having won his first World Championship at just 10. From his demanding training schedule to his rigorous fitness regime, Tomi shows what it truly means to work hard for your dreams. With his trademark mohawk he defies the traditional image of an Irish dancer.
Tomi’s success is fuelled by the support of his family. His Belfast-born mum and Nigerian-born dad have dedicated their lives to his passion. His dance school also acts as a second family, offering encouragement, camaraderie, and mentorship that help drive him forward.
The road to glory comes with pressure and Tomi must learn how to balance nerves with focus as the stakes grow higher. With guidance from Riverdance star Amy-Mae Dolan and encouragement from Irish Dance TikTok sensations The Gardiner Brothers and an encounter with Michael Flatley, Tomi finds the inspiration to keep pushing for his dream.
Tomi: Champion of the World airs Monday, September 1 at 5:30pm on RTÉ2.
