RTÉ announces appointment of Gráinne McAleer as Acquisitions Editor, RTÉ
Gráinne McAleer has been appointed as Acquistions Editor, RTÉ following an internal competition.
As Acquistions Editor, Gráinne will report to and support the Director of Acquisitions & Co-Productions, Dermot Horan, in negotiations with major Hollywood studios and international distribution companies, to provide both RTÉ television and the RTÉ Player with thousands of hours across all content genres, including feature films, drama and comedy series, documentaries and children’s programming. The department operates in a very competitive local and international audiovisual market.
Grainne McAleer has been commissioning factual programmes for RTÉ for more than 20 years. She is currently the Commissioning Editor for Documentaries and Features. She commissioned numerous series such as Operation Transformation, Room to Improve, Great House Revival, The Case I Can’t Forget, DIY SOS, Build Your Own, Ray Goggins Uncharted, On the Beat and most recently The Traitors Ireland. Her slate of documentaries includes Quinn Country, The Killing of Father Niall Molloy, Nicola: Taking Back Control, Michael Lynn, The Skinny Jab and Bad Nanny.
Commenting on Gráinne’s appointment, RTÉ’s Director of Video, Steve Carson said: “Grainne is an exceptionally experienced commissioner with deep knowledge of global content trends and a keen understanding of Irish audiences. I’m delighted that she will be joining our exceptional Acquisitions team in a key role that will help drive audience growth on RTÉ Player while supporting our strong linear services.”

As viewers move more and more to an on-demand world the role of acquisitions in providing key programming to the RTÉ Player, whilst at the same time maintaining large portions of the television schedule, becomes of paramount importance, and Gráinne will be instrumental in growing this offering.”

Gráinne will begin the role of Acquisitions Editor, RTÉ in the coming months.
