From Ballet to Books: RTÉ is Supporting 12 Arts and Cultural Events all over Ireland this December
As the festive season approaches, RTÉ Supporting the Arts is proud to showcase an exciting array of cultural events taking place across Ireland this December. From world-class exhibitions to enchanting performances, these events celebrate creativity and community at its finest.
RTÉ is delighted to support Library Ireland Week, with events taking place across the country from 30th November – 6th December. In addition, the RTÉ Supporting the Arts scheme will support 11 other arts and cultural events nationwide, spanning theatre, art, music, ballet, festivals, and more.
In Dublin, visual art lovers can experience Picasso: From the Studio at the National Gallery of Ireland, offering a rare glimpse into the artist’s creative process. Music enthusiasts will enjoy the Wigmore Series Dublin at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, featuring exceptional classical performances. Temple Bar Gallery + Studios hosts the Dublin Art Book Fair, a vibrant celebration of art and design publications, while ballet fans can delight in The Nutcracker presented by the Irish National Youth Ballet, a magical seasonal performance for all ages.
Theatre takes centre stage with Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya at Smock Alley Theatre and The Dead offers a thrilling immersive adaptation of Joyce’s masterpiece, created by two of Ireland’s leading theatre companies, ANU and Landmark, in association with MoLI – the Museum of Literature Ireland. Set within the rich historical interiors and hidden rooms of 85 St Stephen’s Green, this unique production brings literature vividly to life.
Across the country, Ballet Ireland’s Cinderella tours nationwide, enchanting audiences with its timeless fairy tale. The National Symphony Quartet continues its Autumn Concert Season, offering rich musical experiences in venues throughout Ireland. Families can enjoy WhistleBlast’s Winter Wonderland, a festive musical journey designed to captivate audiences young and old. Meanwhile, Library Ireland Week celebrates the vital role of libraries and literacy in communities nationwide.
In Kildare, the Shackleton Experience Athy reopens, inviting visitors to explore the extraordinary life and adventures of the legendary explorer. Further north in Donegal, Scoil Gheimhridh Ghaoth Dobhair provides a unique winter school dedicated to traditional music and culture, offering workshops and performances that showcase Ireland’s rich heritage.
