RTÉ’s new history podcast, What Were We Like, is out now. Hosted by historian Diarmaid Ferriter and archivist Catriona Crowe, the series focuses on modern Irish history, spanning from Collins and De Valera to the Celtic Tiger years, and everything in between.
It follows Diarmaid and Catriona’s special series on the history of the Presidency, published during the height of last year’s election campaign.
In the first two episodes of this new series, Diarmaid and Catriona look at the most belligerent and bizarre Irish political insults of the last 100 years. In part one of this catalogue of mudslinging, the Irish Civil War dominates. In the second of the two-part series, the civil war is well in the past, but Irish politicians are still roaring at each other.
