The search for Ireland’s newest country music star is live on Friday 17 April on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player
Singer Paddy Treacy has today been announced as the first act bidding to win The Late Late Show Opening Act. Paddy is is one of five performers who will perform live at the first ever The Late Late Show Opening Act on Friday 17 April on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.
Each act is in with a chance of winning the opportunity to open for GRAMMY winner Shania Twain when she takes to the stage in Limerick’s Thomond Park in July. They will also win a spot on the annual Late Late Show Country Special presented by Patrick Kielty later this year.
Fermanagh man Paddy was revealed as the first contestant in an interview on Today with David McCullagh on RTÉ Radio 1 this morning.
He said, “I really cannot wait to play on The Late Late Show Opening Act, it’s really a dream come true getting to perform on The Late Late Show, a show I have watched since I was a child and a show I never ever thought I would be on some day.”
“As good as The Late Late Show is, the country music special is the highlight of shows of the year in my opinion, I never ever miss a country music special. My favourite one was when they opened the show with the ‘Walk of Life’. The production value really added to the performance, so to think I have the chance to perform on the show in front of those big names, it doesn’t seem real to me.”
Four further hopefuls will be unveiled on Today with David McCullagh on RTÉ Radio 1, between 9-11am, each morning this week, with listeners getting to hear from each finalist for the first time.
The five finalists will compete on The Late Late Show Opening Act on Friday 17 April on RTÉ One at 9:35pm.
