RTÉ presents Wild Conamara, a two-part natural history documentary that brings audiences into Conamara, one of the most spectacular and renowned areas of Ireland. This thrilling journey explores the region’s remotest corners, meeting the wild creatures that call this remarkable place home.
Presenter, Eoin Warner guides audiences from sea to summit, starting with abandoned islands off Conamara’s Atlantic coast and travelling all the way to the very tip of its highest peak, Binn Bhán. Showcasing the lives of the region’s wild creatures, Eoin reveals the diversity of wildlife, the challenges they face and the places they depend on.
The series highlights some of Ireland’s most remarkable species; from the freshwater pearl mussel, one of the country’s oldest surviving inhabitants, to the soaring white‑tailed eagle, the elusive pine marten and the iconic red deer. It also showcases the resurgence of red squirrels in pockets of Atlantic rainforest and the growing presence of basking sharks off the Conamara coast.
Conamara’s islands emerge as vital sanctuaries for some of the world’s greatest migratory travellers, including Arctic terns, storm petrels, Manx shearwaters and great skuas, who return each year to raise their young on these isolated outposts. Interwoven through the amazing display of wildlife, are stories of dedicated locals striving to protect and keep the wild kingdom of Conamara alive and kicking.
Presenter of the documentary series Eoin Warner said: “Conamara is a place apart, a landscape of desolate beauty unlike any other I know in Ireland. What an amazing adventure it was to spend a year exploring Conamara’s mountains, bogs and offshore islands, the wild corners where some of Ireland’s most beautiful wildlife still calls home.”
Wild Conamara airs on Sunday, 31 May 2026 at 6.30pm on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.
