Public turn to RTÉ in record numbers for news, information and entertainment
RTÉ is most-recognised brand for supporting the nation during the Covid-19 crisis
According to the latest RTÉ Audience Research survey, RTÉ is the most-recognised brand for supporting the nation during the Covid-19 crisis. Almost 4 million individuals or 90% of the Irish TV population tuned in to RTÉ’s television services over the 11 week period (2nd March – 17th May 2020).
RTÉ has seen significant growth in its engagement with 15-34 year olds, particularly across RTÉ News & Current Affairs. Online, both RTÉ Player and RTÉ.ie are enjoying record-breaking engagement numbers, with streams up 70% on the former and page views up +153% on the latter. Online radio streams have also grown by 50% over the 9-week period to 17th May and programmes such as Liveline and Today with Sean O’Rourke creating national conversations. Viewers turned to both the Six One and Nine O’Clock News each evening to get the most up to date information on Covid-19 while Primetime continued with discussions and explained to the people of Ireland what it actually meant for them. Shared moments and shared community remain vitally important to audiences; from May Day: 24 hours in Lockdown and the RTÉ Home School Hub to Dancing with the Stars and RTÉ’s #ShineYourLight, people across the nation have been joining in to share memorable moments in large numbers.
The Late Late Show went from strength to strength as the programme raised an incredible €6 Million throughout lockdown for numerous Irish charities.
RTÉ is working with in-house teams and the independent production sector to deliver new content over the summer months. More details to be announced next week.
