JANET’S REVEALED AS THE RTÉ2 “TAKEAWAY TITANS” WINNER
On the finale of Takeaway Titans tonight on RTÉ2 the five finalist takeaway teams returned to the kitchen one last time to cook a dish that could clinch them the winners’ title. For the finale the best takeaway teams from five categories which included Chippers, East Asian, Pizza, Indian and Burgers, all had to cook 30 portions of just one dish that they thought best represented their takeaways. Judges Suzie Lee and Dylan McGrath were in the kitchen observing, but deciding the actual winner were 30 takeaway fanatics.
Ultimately Janet’s, based in Eatyard in Dublin, was crowned the Takeaway Titan 2022.
Presenter Carl Mullan said “I think we’ll all be in agreement that the quality of takeaway in Ireland has gone absolutely through the roof and the last six weeks of Takeaway Titans has really shown that. Absolutely delighted for Janet to win and the fact that she’s bringing her grandmother’s recipes to life really makes the story all the more heart warming. Getting to taste their dumplings on set was one of the best jobs I’ve got to do over the entire year. And if she’s ever available for event coordination I’d love to have her – she’s one of the most impressive operators I’ve ever seen in my life! If you can, make sure to get down and try Janet’s food – a very deserving winner of Takeaway Titans 2022.”
Speaking after the win on the programme Janet said: We’ve learned a lot from the competition, we were under the pressure of the judges so we improved a lot in this competition. It really means so much for us. When (presenter) James told us “The winner is Janet’s”, my first reaction was “Oh my god who is that? Janet?” So I was scared and happy but still no … I had to hit myself – is that real? It is! We are the winners!”
Judge Suzy Lee said, “It is so strange for me to be on this side of the kitchen but we definitely picked the best five teams – they did not disappoint. The winning duo – they are just so bubbly, they’re so dynamic, they’re machines! They were so fast getting out all of those orders and I’m just delighted that they won.”
Judge Dylan McGrath said: It’s been an amazing six weeks. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed seeing all of the diversity and talent on the Irish takeaway scene. It’s been super competitive throughout. I’m delighted for the two girls. The public felt their bowl was the strongest today, they worked their backsides off. Well done girls!”
Presenter James Kavanagh said: “Viewers will be in for a tasty treat when they tune in for the finale, we have a great episode in store when Sambros from Limerick, Dublin Pizza Company, Janet’s in Drumcondra, Little Fish in Letterfrack and Spice Cottage in Sallynoggin go head to head in pursuit of the Takeaway Titan title. It’s great to see so much talent in the series, Carl and I had so many delicious meals on set. Word of advice for anyone tuning in to watch the finale – make sure you have some nibbles in front of you as your mouth will be watering while you watch!”
